Tulane SHRM’s Affiliation Status as of 12/05/2014

This post outlines the Tulane University Society for Human Resource Management Student Chapter (Tulane SHRM)’s affiliation status with various organizations: school, student, community etc. as of 12/05/14.

SHRM Nationals

  • Currently, we are working with SHRM nationals to become affiliated as an official SHRM student chapter.
  • We are required to have 8 student members who are SHRM national student members. Currently, we have seven.
  • Our draft for the Tulane SHRM bylaws had been submitted to SHRM Student Programs for review in late November. Recommendations have been returned, changes have been made and the bylaws have been signed by the Chapter Advisor and Chapter President.
  • We will be submitting our Petition for Affiliation packet on Tues. 12/9 to the State Council Director.


  • We have been working closely with Tim Kelly, president of NOLA SHRM, to establish our student chapter.
  • NOLA SHRM has agreed to offer Tulane SHRM student members, who are also national members, complimentary membership to NOLA SHRM.
  • As of 12/5 this agreement has not yet been formalized but is in the process.

Tulane University School of Continuing Studies

  • We are working with Choose Taurman, the Program Director of Applied Business to obtain recognition by the School of Continuing Studies.
  • He has received a copy of our bylaws, charter agreement, petition, chapter profile and roster.
  • A meeting with Dean Richard Marksbury is pending regarding Tulane SHRM.

Tulane University Undergraduate Student Government / Associated Student Body

  • It is unknown at this time whether Tulane SHRM will seek recognition from USG and ASB.

Tulane University Graduate and Professional Students Association

  • It is unknown at this time whether it is necessary for Tulane SHRM to seek recognition from GAPSA.

SHRM at Tulane’s First Informational Meeting

Our first of a series of informational meetings will be held on Monday, November 17 at 5:45 PM in the Norman Mayer building at the Uptown campus in Room 118. Please arrive a few minutes early as the presentation will begin promptly at 5:45 PM. This session will be shorter than the others below.

An informational meeting will be held at the Elmwood Campus on Wednesday, November 19 at 8:30 PM in Classroom A.

Another Uptown campus informational meeting will be held on Thursday, November 20 at 8:30 PM in Richardson Building Room 113B.

All of the sessions will contain similar information so you only need to attend one.

We will be presenting the benefits of SHRM membership as well as discussing the goals for our student chapter. All Tulane students, faculty, and staff are welcome!
